◎简 介
八年前,自海军路站队受训完毕的卡麦伦坡尼可拉斯凯吉为了保护刚怀孕的妻子免于小混混的骚扰,导致过失杀人被判了十年徒刑.在狱中表现的他,终于在女儿八岁生日当天获得假释,卡麦伦坡希望能亲自将生日礼物送到女儿手中,因此要求典狱官让他登上空中监狱,以节省舟车往返的时间.但这踏空中监狱正巧搭载 一批全美最残暴凶狠的犯人，准备运送到另一个新落成的监狱去。
联邦探员约翰库查克饰为这踏危险任务准备许久.没想到飞机飞上天没多久,罪犯首领外号'病毒'的葛森约翰麦可维奇饰就策动其他同伙,夺下飞机.联邦调查局在无路可退下,决定打下这架飞机-反正他们都是社会人渣.但以外入这场风波的卡麦伦坡又该如何为自己脱险,亲自将礼物送给从未谋面的女儿。这是制片人杰里·布鲁克黑莫尔在同伴冬·辛普森去世后，独立制片的第一部影片。我们可以从这部片子看出杰里·布鲁克黑莫尔完全具备了组织，驾御动作片结构的能力。尽管此片较少故事情节，可这并不防碍其动作特技的精彩程度。

每年好莱坞都有空难，97年的《空中监狱》要比96年的《最高危机》更胜一筹。这几年的灾难片似乎在追求“规模效应”，你的火山能填平一个小镇，我的飞机核弹能摧毁一座大都市；你的陨石能覆盖曼哈顿，我的陨石能毁灭全人类。其实，一举清除千百万人的电影镜头早已丧失了威吓作用。《空中监狱》不追求死人的数量，但死得很精彩，人的“质量”更高。
动作片的第一要素就是视觉冲击力，《空中监狱》在这方面不甘示弱。飞机上往下扔人的事在现实中极为罕见，在电影里习以为常，但镜头跟着人一路下来，直到掉在繁华大街行驶的车头盖上，造成喜剧式连环撞车，这样的拍摄手法不乏新意。飞机紧急迫降几乎每部飞机灾难片都少不了，但降在赌城的主要街道、冲进赌场，据我所知还是头一遭。飞机尾巴上挂一辆漂亮跑车的镜头也令人眼睛一亮，汽车掉下来时，除了该车主人脸色发青，人人（包括观众）都是一副幸灾乐祸的反应。
影片的爆炸场面非常多，处理也不错，节奏把握得当（导演是拍电视广告出身，对如何吸引观众注意力颇有经验），在这个观众吃腻了视觉泡泡糖的年代，这些老伎俩要引人注目越来越不容易。

·电影的灵感来自于一则讲述运载犯人的飞机的报纸新闻。
·电影主题曲《How Do I Live》在获得奥斯卡最佳原创歌曲奖提名的同时，也被金酸莓提名为最差歌曲，不过最后哪个奖都没得。
·根据Cameron Poe收到的女儿的信，飞机是7月14日起飞的，这天是法国国庆节，攻陷巴士底狱的日子。
·拉斯维加斯的场景是在传奇酒店Sands Hotel拍摄的。1996年，当摄制组知道这个地标性建筑将被拆掉时，他们迅速架起了多台摄像机，使得我们在电影中还能再看到它。
